An Uncommon Landscape
The landscape is constantly changing, whether by natural processes or human activities. Historically, much landscape photography has championed the grand and untouched natural landscape and the pure beauty of vast, open spaces. Much of the contemporary landscape, however, exists somewhere on the spectrum between natural and man-made. Landscapes moving toward either end of this spectrum - or chronically caught in the middle - can be visually telling, horrific, or awkwardly beautiful. Photographic records of these “new” landscapes can speak to the larger economic, social, and/or political climate of a place. The works exhibited in “An Uncommon Landscape” will collectively point to the reality that is truly more common.
